The Embassy Collection: The Story Behind our Newest NFT
What is the first thing you think about when you look at a hat? Is it the color? The style? The comfort? Maybe how good it makes you feel when you put it on. Hats are a versatile clothing item that allow everyone to express their individuality and sense of self. For us, this clothing item goes beyond a sense of style, but a form of living. Besides being the name of our protocol, Hats share a deep connection to the hacker community, who often hide their face in many hats to remain anonymous, protect their privacy, and show their quirky side.
We are incredibly grateful for the design team and NFT artist behind our collection. To honor their work, we decided to interview Rafahu, our NFT artist, to educate our community about his work and perks associated with this collection. Below is an excerpt from our interview, which was originally recorded in Spanish.
Q: Rafahu, tell us a bit about yourself, what is your NFT journey?
My name is Rafael Aguilar, I am originally from Mexico and I have been a graphic designer for many years. I was introduced to the world of NFTs last year, after reading about Beeple’s digital art and its huge success. I became very curious and started working on different initiatives, one being crypto loteria, a crypto themed Mexican board game, similar to bingo, that uses images and a deck of cards to score points.
The NFT world opened my eyes about crypto currency, wallets, exchanges and security practices. Today, I am able to use my knowledge to help other projects with their NFT initiatives.
Q: Tell me about the Embassy Collection
R: The embassy collection is composed of 3 NFTs: The protector, the mother, and the hacker. All representing different key communities of the Hats ecosystem.
Q: What was the idea behind the protector?
This NFT represents the community at large; the investors, the crypto curious, and security enthusiasts. These are people that have a large appetite for knowledge, they ask questions, and understand security is the building block of every great project. The protector supports the hats mission by contributing to bug bounties, joining ambassador initiatives and supporting different programming. Through this NFT I visualize a fearless warrior on top of an ethereum mine, protecting any malicious invader from attacking the network. At his side, we have a loyal crow companion (representing our previous crow collection) that stands by his side in every dangerous mission. The spirit of the protector is brave and kind, fighting for a greater cause that affects us all.
Q: What about the Mother? What did you have in mind?
The Mother is a mystic character representing a project team and committee members. This NFT is given to those that spend many hours of their day ensuring their house (project) is working accordingly and is always clean of evil.
Inspired by Indian culture, I portray a woman with an ethereum-shaped third eye that is able to detect evil, come up with solutions, and act in the best interest of the community. In a way, the Mother has a powerful, stern, yet protective, and caring nature.
Q: Lastly we have the hacker, tell me about your inspiration
The hacker is one of the most special characters in the collection. He is the missing key to uniting all 3 characters into one same mission. Because many hackers prefer anonymity, the NFT shows a faceless white hat with a mischievous smile. He smiles looking at the contract he has to solve, almost like a game to him. His outfit portrays him as a magician, with a belt full of master keys, which he uses to open any vault before the bad guys get to it. While the hacker is often misunderstood, at heart, he wants to do good and help the ecosystem be safer for all.
We are thankful for the opportunity to talk with Rafahu about his work, vision, and behind the scenes work. We look forward to continuing collaborating and sharing his amazing work. Thanks Rafahu for your time!
